Firefighters tackled a blaze that destroyed the roof of an empty Corringham bungalow yesterday afternoon.One crew from Corringham and two from Orsett were called to the scene, on Branksome Avenue, just after 4pm, with the property 100 per cent alight. Detectives investigating the murder of a man in Clacton are now able to name the victim as James Gregoire. The 54-year-old died after being stabbed in Rosemary Road at about 11.45pm on Monday, April 13.A 21-year-old man, who was arrested in Clacton on Tuesday on suspicion of murder, remains in hospital receiving treatment.A post mortem examination has revealed that Mr Gregoire died from several stab wounds to the upper body.

A 200 tonne hay bail stack near Braintree has been alight for over 10 hours.Firefighters were called to a fire which had engulfed the 200 tonne straw stack in Shalford Green at 9.39pm last night (April 20). A fire broke out in the kitchen of a house in Braintree last night. Firefighters were called to the blaze, which broke out in the ground floor kitchen, of the property in Albemarle Gardens at 9.03pm. The fire caused smoke to clog the house. Using one hose reel jet and wearing breathing apparatus, the two crews from Braintree had extinguished the fire by 9.20pm. Firefighters also used a ventilation fan to clear smoke from the house.

A junction in between Heybridge and Goldhanger has been temporarily closed after a single-vehicle accident this morning.The B1026 Maldon Road was partially blocked after the crash at the junction with Wash Lane.Power cables also fell in the area, between Wash Lane and Chigborough Road, which are currently being made safe. Chelmsford fire crews were called to an overturned road sweeper in Writtle tonight. A further two fire engines from Brentwood were also called to the A414 at 5.36pm, where the sweeper had been in collision with a car.
