Essex police officers have been involved in one of their most unusual wildlife operations – preventing 40 whales from stranding themselves on the county's beaches and sandbanks.
Officers from the marine unit and the helicopter were called in after the pod of pilot whales was seen entering the River Blackwater on Tuesday (November 18).
