A haystack, containing more than 3,000 tonnes of straw, is alight in a field near Haverhill.Crews from Wethersfield, Halstead, Clare and Haverhill were called to Foxes Road in Ashen at around 5.20pm yesterday where they found the large stack of straw, which measured 30m by 10m, was well alight.Crews are protecting the surrounding area to contain the fire.A one pump relief engine later took over to damp down the fire as firefighters monitor the controlled blaze.
